The Coastal Lacrosse Conference will begin play with six teams. Salisbury University (MD), Christopher Newport University (VA) and University of Mary Washington (VA) join from the Coast 2 Coast Conference. Kean University (NJ), Montclair State University (NJ), and Stockton College (NJ), the only New Jersey Athletic Conference schools sponsoring lacrosse, join from the Colonial States Athletic Conference. The newly-formed CLC will need to wait two years before being eligible to receive an NCAA tournament automatic qualifier.

The four remaining institutions in the Colonial States Athletic Conference - Bryn Athyn College (PA), Cairn University (PA), Keystone College (PA), and Rosemont College (PA) - entered into an agreement with the three schools in the New England Collegiate Conference - Eastern Nazarene College (MA), Mitchell College (CT), and New England College (NH) - whereby the winner of each conference will play in a championship game to determine the CSAC’s automatic qualifier.
Cazenovia College (NY) will cease operations entirely at the end of the Spring 2023 semester, meaning the 2023 season will be its last. Cazenovia has competed as part of the North Atlantic Conference.

Whittier College (CA) will discontinue men’s lacrosse after the 2023 season. Whittier competes as an independent in Division 3 lacrosse.

2024 season
The Colonial States Athletic Conference announced plans to merge operations with the United East Conference for the 2023-24 academic year. The CSAC has an automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA tournament for lacrosse while the United East does not. Assuming the two schools from the New England Collegiate Conference join the merged conference as affiliates for lacrosse, a total of 11 schools would compete in men’s lacrosse in 2024.

2025 season
Alfred State College (NY) will reinstate its program after dropping in 2020. Alfred State will likely join the United East Conference as the majority of its athletic teams compete in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, which does not sponsor men’s lacrosse. Fellow AMCC members Hilbert and La Roche are members of the United East in 2023.

Pitt-Bradford (PA) will begin men's lacrosse in 2025 with conference affiliation still to be determined. Like Alfred State, Pitt-Bradford's athletic teams compete in the AMCC. With the United East merging with the CSAC, it is possible the revamped CSAC could have 13 schools in men's lacrosse in 2025.

Johnson & Wales (RI) will leave the Great Northeast Conference to join the Commonwealth Coast Conference.

Lawrence (WI) will begin men's lacrosse in 2025 with conference affiliation still to be determined. Its athletic teams compete in the Midwest Conference which will now have five schools that sponsor lacrosse, including Beloit, Cornell, Lake Forest College, and Monmouth. All but Beloit currently compete in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference.
