Salisbury, RPI alone at the top;
Babson making moves
March 26, 2024 - Then-No. 5 RPI's thrilling overtime win over then-No. 2 RIT in the cold at home propelled the Engineers to the second spot in all three major polls this week, one notch below defending champion Salisbury. With four schools in the Top 8 (RPI, RIT, St. Lawrence, and Union), the Liberty League remains the class of Division III. Of course, the Coastal Lacrosse Conference (two of the top six), and the NESCAC (seven schools in the Top 21), and the Centennial (three programs in the Top 14) will have influence over the rankings throughout April.
Not saying we told you so, but in our preseason preview of mid-major teams to watch, one of the programs we highlighted was Babson. Following a convincing 15-8 win over NEWMAC foe MIT on Saturday, the Beavers improved to 6-2, good enough to earn their highest composite point total of the season, 13 points, good for 17th overall.
As we write this, Babson just dispatched No. 9 Bowdoin, 13-6, to move to 7-2 and make a case for continue ascension in the polls next week. April 16 at Tufts will certainly test the Beavers.
