Mustang Classic Games Shake Up Top 20; Salisbury, RIT Separate Themselves
March 19, 2024 - Upsets and overtime thrillers dominated the Mustang Classic this past weekend, and triggered a shakeup in the D3 Lax Composite Poll presented by Powell Lacrosse. When the dust settled, Salisbury (7-0) and RIT (7-0) had separated themselves from the pack for now, going 1-2 in each of the three major polls.
St. Lawrence (8-0) was this week's big mover, vaulting from 8th to a tie for 3rd following the Saints' two OT wins over York (2-5) and Christopher Newport (6-2). The wins proved the Saints can play in close games and should serve them well as they begin Liberty League play this week at No. 21 Skidmore (8-1).
Seven NESCAC schools received votes this week including Hamilton (3-2), which upset No. 12 Lynchburg (3-3), 16-15, in the Mustang Classic. The Liberty League, meanwhile, placed five teams on the list, including four in the top eight - RIT, St. Lawrence, RPI (8-0), and Union (5-0). RIT travels to Troy this weekend to play No. 5 RPI.
A total of 24 schools received at least one Top 20 appearance this week, with 34 teams receiving votes in the USILA poll. Our composite Week 7 poll is listed below.
